HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT

JSC acquired OHSAS 18001 certification from IMQ for the first time in 2005. We updated it with the OHSAS 18001:2007 certification for all projects sites at home and abroad in 2007.

CLIENT HSE SATISFACTION INDEX
JSC conducts an annual survey of its clients to gauge their degree of satisfaction with our HSE management system. The survey allows us to assess and analyze the current state of affairs and to understand the different characteristics and expectations of each client. This also helps us to examine our strengths and weaknesses in each country. We are committed to achieving excellent HSE performance by consistently refining our already rigorous and thorough HSE system.

SAFETY AUDITS
Safety audits are conducted regularly to improve and standardize safety performance at every site, in every country we work in. Through this audit process, health and safety performance is quantified and then circulated throughout the company as "Best Practices and Lessons Learned Case Studies."

HEALTH AND SAFETY IN PRACTICE
The company strives to improve the health and safety performance of all project sites and offices. Routine assessments and training sessions are conducted to guarantee that our employees and subcontractors are safe and healthy.

CERTIFICATION
JSC has contracted with a third-party HSE assurance firm to audit and verify our health and safety management system. This verification process reinforces the effectiveness and reliability of Samsung Engineering’s health and safety management system.

ENVIRONMENT

ENVIRONMENTALLY HAZARDOUS WORK PERMIT SYSTEM
In order to minimize environmental hazards, JSC has implemented a project permit system, which requires construction plans to be checked for potential environmental risk factors. For any project found to require an environmental mitigation plan, a work permit is issued. Those environmentally sensitive projects are then monitored throughout the construction process by inspectors who visit each job site to verify that the construction team is adhering to the limitations and requirements of the permits.

WASTE AND HAZARDOUS MATERIAL MANAGEMENT
JSC applies the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principle to minimize the environmental effect brought on by waste materials produced from our construction sites. We constantly monitor our project sites to make sure our waste management plans are being carried out effectively and performance targets are being met. We also collect data on environmental “near misses” that take place at project sites and share these findings with other sites so that similar near misses do not transpire again.
